It’s Casual Friday! Sam and Emma host Heather Digby Parton, contributing writer at Salon.com and proprietor of the blog Hullabaloo, to round up the week in news. Then they are joined by David Feldman of The David Feldman Show! Sam and Emma begin by tackling updates on Trump’s special master, the state of the Freight Rail strike, and the horrendous stunts by GOP Governors with migrants, also diving into Trump’s appearance with Hugh Hewitt. Then, Digby joins as they get into situating Trump’s relationship to the rest of the GOP heading into the midterms, particularly in the wake of backlash to 1/6 and the Dobbs decision, and dive into what Trump’s role in the Republican party agenda might be (contrasted with DeSantis’). They also look at the long-term progress of the Republican agenda, with folks like Cheney and Chief Justice Roberts developing their neocon theories under Nixon and Reagan respectively, before diving deeper into the potential Presidential aspirations of Abbott and DeSantis (as shown by their human trafficking stunts), and looking at the wide-scale Republican backlash to Lindsey Graham advancing their agenda, with talking heads from Kirk to Walsh complaining that America just isn’t read. Wrapping up, they establish why the progression of the GOP agenda is working against its own progress (because it’s horrific), and what their play will be heading into the midterms.
And in the Fun Half: Sam and Emma are joined by David Feldman as they tackle the devastating state of London, England in the wake of the Queen’s funeral, also discussing the dangers of the Windsor Bosom, and anti-semitism on a broader level. Sam and Emma also reflect on the GOP’s rapid backtrack, watching JD Vance’s self-immolation on abortion, and Don Bolduc’s 4-week 180º on the biggest part of the Trump agenda (the Big Lie), before watching Dave Rubin fantasize about the horrors of his children’s future, and Matt Walsh wistfully wax about the Hollywood standards that brought us such classics as “Friends,” and “Seinfeld,” plus, your IMs!
