On today’s show, Mehdi Hassan (@mehdirhasan) from the Intercept and Al Jazeera joins Sam to discuss the case to impeach Trump and Film Guy Matthew Weiss (@langdonboom) to give us an update on his eBay store and some film recommendations. Mehdi and Sam begin their conversation talking about Justin Amash’s recent Twitter threads outlining how both the Mueller report and Trump efforts to obstruct oversight efforts are grounds to begin impeachment proceedings. As for Pelosi’s role in impeachment proceedings, Mehdi sees the Speaker’s actions as somewhere between disingenuous and incompetent. Mehdi and Sam then discuss how Barr’s new intel disclosure powers, coupled with the new Espionage Act charges against Assange, will chill investigations in journalism and transparency in government. And finally, Sam and Mehdi give their assessment on Iran and consider whether or not Trump will follow his hawk advisors calls for a new conflict in the Middle East. Then Matthew Film Guy joins Sam to share his movie pick of the week, “First Reformed,” starring Ethan Hawke and Amanda Seyfried.
