3/25 What’s Really Happening at the US Southern Border w/ Aura Bogado & Marcia Brown

March 25, 2021
Sam and Emma host Aura Bogado, an investigative reporter at Reveal News, to discuss what the Biden administration could have preemptively done to prepare for the increase of children crossing the border. Aura tells the story of a child who spent 7 formative years of her life trapped in various shelters waiting to be reunited with their family before asking to be deported back to Honduras. Aura also discusses the intersection of climate change and political instability in Central America. Then, Marcia Brown from American Prospect joins to talk about the impact of Title 42, her recent travel to the border, and how the asylum system works. Aura and Marcia both make the point that the “crisis at the border” rhetoric used by Republicans is made to make people believe that the current flow of migrants is somehow unexpected or atypical, rather than just a problem with our current asylum system and the conditions of the shelters.
And in the Fun Half: Emma, Matt Bider, and Brandon Sutton match in red flannels, Micheal Tracey calls out MEL Magazine for having articles about toxic masculinity….in their masculinity section, Joe Biden fires five members of staff for smoking weed, Andrew Yang is hanging out at your local bodega, the most recent Cuomo scandal, Ted Cruz’s new merch “McConnell in the Front, Maga in the Back,” voting on the sabbath, plus your calls and IMs!
