1/7 The Republican Party is the Insurrectionist Party w/ Rick Perlstein & Lizet Ocampo

January 7, 2021

Sam hosts author Rick Perlstein (@rickperlstein) to discuss the historic implications of yesterday’s riot at the Capitol and then Lizet Ocampo (@mlizetocampo), Political Director at People for the American Way discusses her work in Georgia, securing Democrats control of the Senate.

On today’s show: Trump tells supporters you can’t take back your country with weakness, have to show strength. Trump supporters surge past capitol police.

Sam hosts author Rick Perlstein (@rickperlstein) to discuss the historic implications of yesterday’s riot at the Capitol. Analogous examples of treasonous acts throughout US history, what this latest outrage represents, and where the Democrats should go from here.

Lizet Ocampo (@mlizetocampo), Political Director at People for the American Way, joins Sam to discuss her work in Georgia, securing Democrats control of the Senate.

On the fun half: Joe Scarborough’s tone matches the moment, calls out capitol police, “you opened the fucking door for them!” Trump video telling people it’s a fraudulent election, they need to leave, but he feels their pain and he loves them. Ainsley really hopes Trump can forgive Pence. Ainsley Earhardt says like George Floyd protests showed us need for police reform, storming the capitol shows we need election reform. Rioters celebrate as they freely leave capitol, “next time we come back we won’t be peaceful!” Cori Bush calls rioters white supremacists, calls for the removal of any Republicans who tried to overturn election. Lou Dobbs and Mo Brooks suggests Antifa is behind this. Plus, your calls and IMs!
