10/6 When Capitalism Fails to Save Us from Pandemics w/ Richard Wolff

October 6, 2020

Sam hosts economist Richard Wolff to discuss his new book The Sickness is the System: When Capitalism Fails to Save Us from Pandemics or Itself. Sam and Professor Wolff begin their conversation assessing American capitalism’s failure to prepare for the Covid pandemic and why the private profit system doesn’t work to mitigate against a pandemic. Wolff lays out the shortcomings of the US public health system while Trump continues to fund the military and the arms industry. Wolff compares the US response to Covid to European countries and how their effective social safety net helped keep businesses open and unemployment low. Wolff and Sam then open up the discussion more broadly, asking why Americans tolerate such ineffective ideological policy solutions to bail out corporations and the largest private companies in America.

And in the Fun Half: The Joint Chiefs of Staff are now in quarantine, Tucker Carlson says Trump is healthy again and covid isn’t serious, Nomiki hits up a Qanon rally in Scottsdale, Steve Doocy has cognitive dissonance on Fox and Friends, John from San Antonio’s latest election odds, Rudy Giuliani: epistemologist, Fox Doctor says it’s lurid that Americans want to know Trump’s health, Biden compares Bernie to Putin and Castro, plus your calls and IMs!
