Sam hosts Howard Bryant (@hbryant42), senior writer at ESPN.com and ESPN the Magazine, to discuss his new book, Full Dissidence: Notes from an Uneven Playing FieldWhile many in the Obama era told tales of a “post-racial America,” this has never existed, even for black Americans lucky enough to gain some measure of wealth. Examining his own life experiences as well as those of people like Colin Kaepernick and President Obama, Bryant shows why so many black Americans are increasingly pessimistic about our political institutions, including both major political parties. Also: the sinister aspects “the American dream” takes on when black people are incentivized to leave their communities as soon as they become financially successful.
