12/16 All Politics Is Local: Why Progressives Must Fight for the States w/ Meaghan Winter

December 16, 2019

Meaghan Winter, author of ‘All Politics Is Local: Why Progressives Must Fight for the States‘ joins us.

On today’s show: Jeanine Pirro thanks Eric Trump and his wife for their help in the War On Christmas. Dennis Prager is a Jew who is happy to say “merry Christmas” because of “Judeo-Christian values.”

Meaghan Winter joins us to discuss her book, ‘All Politics Is Local: Why Progressives Must Fight for the States.’ In 2016, the GOP gained their largest majority in state governments since 1928, and they’ve been using it to suppress voting rights and dismantle any remotely progressive legislation. Looking at a variety of case studies, Winter examines why the Democratic Party has abandoned state level politics, including: the priorities of wealthy liberal donors, the news media, the web of patronage w/r/t consulting firms, and the perceived threat posed by grassroots orgs. Winter ends on some positive examples set by donors in Colorado as well as national orgs like the DSA.

On the fun half: Bernie retracts endorsement of Cenk Uygur. Cenk calls out David Duke repeatedly in TYT interview. Clip from TYT interview shows it was clearly misreported by the New York Times. Lindsey Graham has made up his mind on Senate impeachment trial. Brian Kilmeade says Democrats should respect Jeff Van Drew’s party change, his “voting his conscience” on impeachment. Chris Coons wishes John McCain were here to lead impeachment trial. James Comey obfuscates FISA concerns in IG report. Evo Morales says American democracy deceives people, no difference between Dems and Repubs w/r/t Latin America policy, monied interests run things. Pete Buttigieg tells teacher he will not remove (pro-charter, anti-union) Reed Hastings’ name from Silicon Valley fundraiser. MAGA MMA fighter Colby Covington gets jaw broken in knockout match with Kamaru Usman. TYT’s John Iadorola shows Dan Bongino what bulk buys look like on NYT bestseller list. Plus, your calls and IMs!
