3/11 The Perils of Partnership: Industry Influence & Institutional Integrity w/ Jonathan H. Marks

March 11, 2019

Jonathan H. Marks (@EthicsLawPolicy), director of the Bioethics Program at Penn State, joins us to discuss his book, The Perils of Partnership: Industry Influence, Institutional Integrity, And Public Health.

On today’s show: John Hickenlooper declines to say whether or not he’s a capitalist.

Jonathan H. Marks (@EthicsLawPolicy), director of the Bioethics Program at Penn State, joins us to discuss his book, The Perils of Partnership: Industry Influence, Institutional Integrity, And Public Health. The history of public-private partnership in the UK and US. The contradictions that arise when an industry tasked with making profits claims to operate in service of the public good. How public-private partnerships have undermined public health. How this dynamic plays out in research universities. Some ideas for a solution.

On the fun half: Howard Schultz says Hickenlooper’s interview proves Democratic Party now belongs to Bernie. Schultz’s definition of socialism is “Venezuela.” Debbie Wasserman-Schultz & Shalala go to Venezuela, film concern-trolling video on the humanitarian bridge. NYT video contradicts Trump admin claim that Maduro burned aid to Venezuela. Tucker Carlson misogynistically defends Warren Jeffs’ child brides on Bubba the Love Sponge, does not apologize, is a hypocrite (ex: his “Ghosts of Biden past” segment). Trump does awful Jeff Sessions impression, signs Bibles at Alabama church for tornado survivors. Stuart Varney says Warren’s wealth redistribution programs are “pure socialism.” AOC explains how Reagan used racism to divide the working class. Al-Jazeera’s Medhi Hasan’s follow up questions reveal Erik Prince’s lie to Congressional Intelligence Committee about August 2016 Trump tower meeting.
