7/11 Obama’s Belated Climate Advice & the Criminalization of Reproductive Health

July 11, 2023

It’s News Day Tuesday! Sam and Emma break down the biggest headlines of the day. First, Sam and Emma run through updates on recent NATO drama, Iran’s continuing lack of nukes, Trump’s various criminal cases, Israel’s political turmoil, and severe environmental repercussions being felt across the US, before diving into Fox News’ and the GOP’s whattabout game as their primary witness for the crimes of the Biden family is arrested for being a foreign agent. Next, Sam and Emma dive a little deeper into the ongoing NATO drama, with backlash to both Sweden’s entry and Ukraine’s lack of a concrete path, also touching on the climate change inflection point that we are in the midst of, with Florida’s waters reaching all times temperature highs (along with the rest of the World’s environment), and the North East going through torrential storms, before diving into Obama’s recent statements about his tone-deaf advice to Malia about climate nihilism (you know, that thing he largely symbolizes for her generation). They wrap up the free half by discussing the recent stories about mothers and their daughters being charged for “illegal” abortions, and the criminalization of healthcare as the most recent manifestation of the GOP’s fascist attacks.

And in the Fun Half: Sam and Emma dive into the crumbling of Florida’s institutions of higher education, Ron DeSantis’ floundering campaign, and talk with David from Pennsylvania on the future of crypto. Alex from Austin dives into the ongoing horrors of fascism and political terrorism in Texas, Michael Knowles blames feminism for giving us queer people, and Mel from Texas dives into the future of the college admissions process, plus, your calls and IMs!
