10/1 The Insanity Of Psychoanalyzing Kyrsten Sinema To Determine The Fate Of Reconciliation w/ Ryan Grim & David Feldman

October 1, 2021

It’s Casual Friday! Sam and Emma host Ryan Grim, Washington D.C. Bureau Chief at The Intercept, to wrap up the week in news. Emma, Sam, and Ryan dive right into yesterday’s developments with infrastructure and reconciliation as progressives successfully prevent the vote on the tiny infrastructure plus bill, re-centering the conversation back to the fact that Joe Manchin and the moderates are backing out of a preexisting agreement, and leveraging the self-importance of the Senate. They also touch on the role of Kyrsten Sinema’s daring refusal to play by Senate rules by… being successfully lobbied by those against the budget bill, as well as looking at the positive signs in terms of her still acting in good faith in negotiations. Turning back to progressives, Grim discusses how they finally came to use their leverage after decades of taking half-assed deals, looking at how the strength of the CPC, particularly in alliance with swing-seat Dems, has changed drastically since the Obama years, and he, Sam, and Emma take on the differences between progressives leveraging their power on this as opposed to the movement to Force the Vote on M4A. They wrap up the interview by looking at how things might move forward, with the debt ceiling vote also hanging in the balance, before Emma and Sam admire the work of activists in pulling Manchin back down to Earth from “Almost Heaven.”

And in the second half: Sam and Emma are joined by David Feldman of The David Feldman Show as they discuss his small-government, Ayn Randian approach to Marxism, the neediness of progressives in negotiations, and the intoxicating misogyny of Jimmy Dore. Plus, David gives a spiel on Bernie Sanders’ overwhelming kielbasa. In the Fun Half, Sam and Emma also touch on the continued injustice of Steven Donzinger’s case as the private lawsuit against him continues, Martha MacCallum reminds us that even kids have to make a living if they want to live, and Senator Blumenthal reminds Sam that he’ll never lose his youth. They also touch on the incredible pressure applied by a college student on Kamala Harris regarding the Iron Dome funding, plus, your IMs!
