5/21 How Progressives Embraced Palestinians & What’s Really Being Canceled w/ Ben Dixon & Ben Burgis

May 21, 2021

Sam and Emma host Ben Dixon of the Benjamin Dixon Show to talk about the top stories of the week and shifting tides of leftist activist authority in U.S. politics, then Ben Burgis, author of Canceling Comedians While the World Burns, joins to discuss his critique of the current American left. Ben Dixon explores how the greater activist sway in U.S. politics has totally changed the discourse around Israel’s apartheid regime, helping shift the Biden administration’s stance on ceasefire and ensuring that Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib can’t be isolated by the Democratic party for speaking out, before moving onto the blatant Republican obstruction of January Sixth commission and how that could undermine centrist dems’ consistent excuses on bipartisan support. Then, the ladder Ben gives us an argument on how Cancel Culture™ is holding back the left by undermining solidarity and reinforcing carceral logics, and what can be done in terms of breaking up social media to help, before he and Sam explore the greater progression of the left from its niche in the early aughts to the today’s constant performances of social activism.

And in the Fun Half: Louie Gohmert warns all of the many Bernie or Bust Billionaires of the gulags and lack of managerial duties in their future, Sam and Emma are forced to double-check Kevin McCarthy’s vax stats, and Chris Doocy incredulously lists off oddly incorrect COVID statistics. Then, Sam and Emma explore the Squad’s vote on the capitol police budget, plus, your calls and IMs!
