2/11 How Republican State Legislatures Are Already Trying to Steal the Next Election w/ Ari Berman

February 11, 2021

Sam hosts Ari Berman, senior reporter at Mother Jones, to discuss the deluge of statehouse legislation aiming to curb voting rights for the next election cycle. Sam and Ari examine how states have tried to restrict voting rights after the 2013 Supreme Court decision which no longer required southern states to receive federal approval before changing their voting laws. Sam and Ari then explore how voting laws may change in the midterm cycle and the next presidential election. Ari warns against the restrictive voting rights and how it could very well come back to hurt the GOP turnout, not just the Democrats. Sam and Ari go state-by-state on how battleground state legislatures are trying to restrict voting rights from gerrymandering to court elections.
