10/27 The Wisconsin Absentee SCOTUS Ruling & a Possibly Rigged Election w/ Ari Berman

October 27, 2020

Sam hosts Ari Berman of Mother Jones to discuss yesterday’s Supreme Court ruling on absentee ballots in Wisconsin. Ari and Sam take a look at how yesterday’s 5-3 Supreme Court ruling in Democratic National Committee v. Wisconsin State Legislature will impact voting leading up to next Tuesday and the election counting after that. Berman points out sections of the Kavanaugh opinion that undermine fundamental voting rights and how Kavanaugh’s opinion lays the groundwork for other Republican-held state legislatures shutting down the vote count to throw the election to Trump.

And in the Fun Half: considering how to face a rigged election, the progressive caucus is ready to ask for more of its members, Nomiki looks at the possibility of Bernie Sanders as Biden’s Labor Secretary, red suburbs turning blue in Pennsylvania by counting signs, trying to reason politics with military members, Ben Shapiro moves the goalposts on any kind of pandemic mitigation, helping the unhoused in protesting cities, plus your calls and IMs!
