8/18 A History of Why Presidents Lies and Why Trump’s the Worst of Them w/ Eric Alterman

August 18, 2020

Sam hosts Eric Alterman, CUNY Distinguished Professor of English and Journalism, to discuss his latest book Lying in State: Why Presidents Lie — And Why Trump Is Worse, and the snowball effect lying has on the executive office. Sam and Alterman discuss the political efficiency of presidential lying dating back to Jefferson, and the four types of lies Alterman categorizes in his book. Alterman also argues that if Trump wins reelection, even the illusion of democratic institutions will vanish.

And the Fun Half: Nomiki and Sam get into the unconventional DNC, Bernie Sanders on the importance of electing Biden/Harris this fall, how does a new Democratic establishment in power fight the left, John Kasich’s pablum at the crossroads, Trump’s evangelical vote and moving Israel’s capital to Jerusalem, plus your calls and IMs!
