7/2 The Escalating Crisis on the India-China Border w/ Achin Vanaik

July 2, 2020

Michael Brooks hosts writer Achin Vanaik to discuss his recent piece in Jacobin magazine, “The Escalating Crisis on the India-China Border,” and why each country’s foreign policy deserves blame for the escalation.

On today’s show: Biden looking for Cuban and Venezuelan American votes with red baiting anti-Trump ad.

Writer Achin Vanaik joins us to discuss his recent piece in Jacobin magazine, “The Escalating Crisis on the India-China Border,” and why each country’s foreign policy deserves blame for the escalation. The historic origins of the India-China border dispute going back to colonial times and followed by the Cold War. How the US-China conflict has affected India’s relationship with the US. US efforts to keep both India and Pakistan as strategic allies in the region, particularly in the post-9/11 era as the US has sought hegemony in the Middle East. The differences between the Chinese and US governments in how they approach foreign policy. The weak criticisms offered by India’s opposition parties on Modi’s aggression towards China.

On the fun half: Sao Paolo food carriers and drivers strike and ride in protest of poor wages and working conditions. Vic Berger supercut of Alan Dershowitz soundbites about his relationship with Epstein. Trump says he’s gonna make a great positive statement on minimum wage. US state dept admits its role in the lava jato case. Bank of England denies Maduro access to Venezuelan gold. Trump reiterates that he believes Covid-19 will disappear…and we’ll have a vaccine. Press asks McEnany if Trump believes virus will disappear, she says yes, he’s confident, & he’s cutting bureaucratic red tape to make it happen. Brian Kilmeade blames the rise of Covid on “mixed messages” from scientists about masks. Dave Rubin says he will not abandon California for Texas, he will fight to make California red. Trump WH scales back mandates that insurers cover Covid tests. Ft. Lauderdale cop’s body cam footage reveals him yelling “did you see me F those MFers up?” after firing on protestors. Black TPUSA spokesman blames celebrity and popular culture for making black Americans fear police.
