August 12, 2019

Healthcare advocate Timothy Faust (@crulge) joins us to discuss his book, “Health Justice Now: Single Payer and What Comes Next.”

On today’s show: MSNBC’s Vaughn Hillyard asked Iowa voter Bob Fisher which candidate he supports, he responds, “I’m white, old, they call me all kinds of name, who do you think?”

Healthcare advocate Timothy Faust (@crulge) joins us to discuss his book, “Health Justice Now: Single Payer and What Comes Next.” The foundational issues with how the private health industry operates. Two-tiered systems and the issues with keeping private insurance around. Why the money for a single-payer system should be allocated locally whenever possible. How a single-payer system could replace the jobs lost in the transition. The role played by doctors and the need to pair single-payer with free medical training. Housing, nutrition, and other components of health justice beyond medical treatment.

On the fun half: Acting USCIS chief Ken Cuccinelli at the White House says, “Through the public charge rule, President Trump’s administration is re-enforcing the ideals of self-sufficiency and personal responsibility ensuring immigrants are able to support themselves.” Cuccinelli says “criminal investigations” resulting from ICE workplace immigration raids are “still ongoing.” Reporter asks about the “huddled masses” language on Statue of Liberty; Cuccinelli says he’s not prepared to take anything off the statue. AG Bill Barr claims he is “outraged” about the apparent suicide of Jeffrey Epstein, vows to investigate. Nearly 100 people arrested for blocking the West Side Highway in anti-ICE protest. So many #JewsAgainstICE arrested at Amazon store the NYPD had to commandeer a bus. To get involved, visit CloseTheCampsNYC.com!
