1/3 An Uncivil War: Taking Back Our Democracy w/ Greg Sargent

January 3, 2019

The Washington Post’s Greg Sargent (@ThePlumLineGS) joins us to discuss his new book, An Uncivil War: Taking Back Our Democracy in an Age of Trumpian Disinformation and Thunderdome Politics.

On today’s show: Trump recounts meetings with generals “better looking than Tom Cruise” and “the biggest computer boards.” Trump defends Soviet invasion of Afghanistan for some reason.

The Washington Post’s Greg Sargent (@ThePlumLineGS) joins us to discuss his new book, An Uncivil War: Taking Back Our Democracy in an Age of Trumpian Disinformation and Thunderdome Politics. In this book, Sargent traces the origins of the political crisis spotlighted, but by no means started, by Trump. An unhealthy media climate, asymmetrical political tactics from Democrats vs. Republicans, and foreign government interventions all contribute to an environment of confusion, disinformation and low voter turnout…and Democrats share some of the blame. How do we come back from this state of affairs? Sargent has ideas.

On the fun half: MSNBC describes Romney and Sasse as “new generation of mavericks.” Ezra Klein taken in by Mitt Romney’s op-ed. Matt Whitaker fawns over Trump, thanks him for not going to Mar-a-Lago, says Dems need to compromise. Nikki Haley tweets that Bolsonaro will be a force for good in the world. Ainsley Earhardt says Americans are worried about being murdered by illegal aliens. Jordan Peterson explains the perils of sex for men to Charlie Kirk and Don Jr. The wonders of the Dave Rubin subreddit. John McAfee has strange things to say about whales. Plus, your calls and IMs!
