9/28 The Most Important 2020 Down-Ballot Races w/ Aaron Kleinman

September 28, 2020

Sam hosts Aaron Klineman, director of research at the Future Now Fund and Give Smart, to discuss this year’s most important down-ballot Democratic candidates and how they’ll impact policy on the state and local level. Sam and Aaron discuss the importance of resource allocation to down-ballot candidates to newly-in-play races in places like Montana, Kansas, and South Carolina as well as what fills in for traditional outreach tactics like doorknocking versus new ones like digital ads and text banking. The two then discuss the possibilities of democrats flipping statehouse majorities in Florida and Pennsylvania and how that could impact the chosen electors in a close presidential elections. Kleinman then explains the possible outcomes for Biden and Trump on election day, including what to expect if voters in democratic trending suburbs break for Biden, or if Biden fails to turn out rural voters. Sam and Aaron conclude their discussion considering what it means if the election comes down to healthcare and the possibility of the Supreme Court rolling back the ACA.

And in the Fun Half: leveraging the ACA in the face of a conservative Supreme Court, Trump’s tax returns and Biden’s debate strategy, Fox News spews more lies about armed Antifa while Proud Boys are themselves in Portland, and according to one pastor cops are doing god’s work.
